All-Star Coach Standards
The OMGS standard for All-Star coaches.
For coaches
- Before you coach: complete the online coach application, the background check release, and the online Child Safety Training.
- Practices: See Spring preseason practice slots. OMGS expects two practices a week before games start and at least one a week after that (unless you have three games that week). Reserve preseason slots through the league sign-up sheet. After games start, fields other than Centennial A, B and C are first come, first served. No practices at private homes or church fields. In Riverton, practice fields must be a softball field or have a backstop.
- Equipment bag: each team gets 4 batting helmets with face masks, 2 bats, a catcher's helmet with mask plus shin guards and chest protector (except T-Ball), 6 softballs and 4 wiffle balls (6 softballs only for T-Ball), and a batting tee for T-Ball. Sign it out at the start of the season and return everything at the end. In 2026 a bag cost OMGS about $476 per team for 8U to 18U and $279 for T-Ball.
- Batting cages and team activities: trips to batting cages, team parties, and other team activities are at each family's own risk. Coaches must tell parents and get permission first. OMGS does not allow practices at private residences.
- GameChanger: download the app, tap +, and import from Sports Connect so schedules and rosters are correct. Line-ups go in at least 10 minutes before game time.
- BBQ assignments: each team is required to cover one 2-hour BBQ shift during the season. In both Spring and Fall, if a team does not cover its BBQ shift, the team forfeits its next game.
- Rainouts: it's each coach's job to check GroupMe after 4:00 PM on weekdays and before games on Saturdays. Cancellations are also emailed to the league. Make-up game days and times are listed on the website. If nothing is posted and you don't get an email, assume there is a game. If you feel the weather or field is unsafe, tell the board member on duty.
- Awards: T-Ball, 8U, and 10U players receive participation medals.
Play Like A GIRL program
Grit, Integrity, Respect, and Love for the Game. Each week OMGS recognizes one player per division, one team league-wide, and one coach league-wide for effort, character, sportsmanship, and positive impact, not just wins. Recipients are entered in a raffle for prizes like tickets, league swag, and custom gear.
For parents
- Parent meeting: held in March. Mandatory for team parents, first-time OMGS parents, and scorekeepers (scorekeeping training). No children.
- Team photos: registration includes one free team photo per player. Photos are taken at Centennial Park, and your coach will share your time.
- Team treats: treat bags are not part of registration. Families take turns bringing post-game treats or buy them at the Snack Shack.
- Sportsmanship: positive cheers only. OMGS has zero tolerance for abusive behavior toward anyone at the park.
- Insurance: OMGS carries secondary medical insurance, which pays after your family's insurance. It does not cover batting cage accidents or accidents at a private residence. If an injury happens, contact a member of the OMGS board immediately. Claims must be filed within one week of the accident.
- All-Stars: see the All-Stars page for eligibility and how it works.
- Registration policies: read the concussion, sportsmanship, and cancellation policies you agree to at registration.
