FAQ
How do I register?
Click any Register button on this site. Spring registration usually opens in mid-January. 2027 fees will be posted when registration opens.
Is there a late fee?
No. OMGS does not charge late fees. The 2027 registration deadline will be posted when registration opens.
Where are games played?
At Centennial Park in Riverton (our home field), Tuscany East, and Western Springs. Addresses and map links are on the Fields page.
What division will my daughter play in?
Check the age chart. It is based on birth month and year.
When are the seasons?
OMGS has three seasons: Spring (generally March through May), All-Stars in the summer (June 1 to early August), and Fall (generally August through October). See Important Dates.
Can girls on competitive teams play?
Not in Spring or All-Stars. A player who is registered or listed on an accelerated (competitive) roster or team during the same season as OMGS may not play on any OMGS team. This includes teams registered through D1 Prospects, USA Softball of Utah (formerly ASA), and USSSA. This does not apply to the Fall season.
How long is a season?
Every team is guaranteed 10 games each season. There is also a single elimination season-end tournament as an extra.
Is there a draft?
In the spring, yes. Players attend a skill assessment (tryout) before draft day (coach picks do not need to), then teams are drafted. All-Stars have their own tryout and draft. In the fall there is no draft. Fall teams: each coach may freeze up to six players in total, including 2 pitchers and 1 catcher. OMGS then builds the rest of each team, keeping teams as balanced as we can by looking at experience, positions, and more. See the draft rules.
Can my daughter play up?
Playing up is allowed with board approval and is decided case by case. Certain conditions must be met. See Divisions for the requirements.
Do parents need to volunteer?
BBQ assignments: each team is required to cover one 2-hour BBQ shift during the season. In both Spring and Fall, if a team does not cover its BBQ shift, the team forfeits its next game. Interested in serving on the OMGS board? Applicants must be at least 21. Board Member Application.
What about All-Stars?
A player must play in at least 75% of her games to be eligible for All-Stars. T-Ball/6U players are not eligible. All-Star eligibility after a sportsmanship issue depends on the infraction. Details are on the All-Stars page.
Is financial help available?
Yes. No eligible player is turned away only because she cannot pay registration fees. The Executive Board may approve confidential payment arrangements, scholarships, waivers, or other financial help. Email us.
Can I get a refund?
If you cancel before teams have been sorted, you get a refund of your registration fee minus a $5 cancellation fee per player. If you cancel after teams have been sorted, the registration fee is not refunded. See Registration Policies.
Where can teams practice?
Practices must be held at a public park. OMGS does not allow practices at private residences. See Registration Policies.
What is the concussion policy?
Every player must have a signed concussion form with her registration to play in any game. When you register, you agree to follow the D1 Prospects policy on concussions and head injuries, as required by Utah law. See Registration Policies.
Who can argue an umpire's call?
Only the coach who met the umpire at the plate meeting before the game may argue a call. Penalties for poor sportsmanship depend on the infraction. See Registration Policies.
Is there insurance?
Yes. OMGS carries secondary medical insurance, which pays after your family's primary insurance. If an injury happens, contact a member of the OMGS board immediately. Claims must be filed within one week of the accident.
